This book was produced for the 81st Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), held in August 2013 in Seattle, Washington. The book provides a general overview of some of the most notable, picturesque, and interesting dams in the United States. That publication, Advancements and Achievements in U. S. Dam Engineering, includes approximately 70 case histories of new dams, existing dams that have been raised, modifications to existing dams, and dams that were removed in the United States between 1988 and 2013. It was from those two publications that approximately 100 dams were selected to be included in this book.
